80 Years of Excellence in Education · 1927—2007

Our School

St. Lawrence O’Toole School is a child-centered, value-oriented, co-educational Catholic school for Pre-K3 through 8th Grade students. Located on Eastview Avenue in the heart of Brewster, St. Lawrence O’Toole School serves families throughout northern Westchester and lower Putnam counties. St. Lawrence O’Toole School, which was founded in 1926, aims for academic excellence in an atmosphere of religious and moral training. Along with teaching formal subjects, St. Lawrence O’Toole School strives to give direction to the lives of its students by instilling certain values:

  • Responsibility
  • Respect for authority
  • Consideration for the rights of others
  • Self-discipline with the guidance of a corps of caring, qualified professionals, students are provided with an array of learning experiences to broaden them on three levels: scholastically, socially, and spiritually.

Goals

As St. Lawrence O’Toole School launches into a new century, particular emphasis will be placed upon the continued fostering of our spirit of community and the integration of technology into daily curriculum.

Building community through partnerships is an integral part of our educational process and is encouraged at every opportunity. Students partner with students, parents partner with the school administration and faculty, and the school partners with the community. The collaborative efforts of the children, the school, the family and community deepen and strengthen the learning experience. Through careful planning, St. Lawrence O’Toole School has broadened its community and enriched the lives of its students by diversifying their learning experiences.

Emphasis has been placed upon inter-personal relationships and a learning module on conflict resolution and communication skills has been infused into the curriculum on all grade levels. To complement the in-school program, we will reach out to our parents to support them in their most important task, parenting. Annually, we offer workshops in both spiritual and secular topics for our parents.

Through an aggressive program employing the services of consultants and university level courses, we have provided and will continue to provide in-service to our teachers on the use of computer technology across the curriculum. Through long-range planning maximizing our funding for new technology for faculty and student use, St. Lawrence O’Toole School is approaching its goal for greater integration of technology into daily curriculum. The systematic purchase of materials which both sustain and enrich the core curriculum areas has given faculty and students additional instructional resources. Computer technology in the classrooms, as well as in the Computer Lab expands the opportunity for students to master new skills.
