School Happenings
Posted on April 16th, 2007
I hope that you had a wonderful Easter recess. The children came back last week rested and ready to accomplish the few remaining months of school.
March was filled with snow days and testing. The students in all grades took ITBS and in Grades 4 and 8 the New York State Exams. Our Eighth Graders attended an evening of Reflection, sat for their written final exam and their oral interview for Confirmation. I am pleased to report that they all performed very well. On this Friday, April 20 Bishop Dominic Lagonegro will confirm them. What an exciting and proud day for them, their parents and family, and all of us in their school family.
I also want to congratulate the Eighth graders on their acceptance and registration in the high schools of their choice. Many of our students received scholarships for high school based on their academic achievements. I am proud of them, their teachers, and their families who collaborated to ensure this success.
The Card Party was a great evening of fun! I was so happy to see so many of the parents and staff there. Grade One had the largest number of parents in attendance and earned a McDonald’s lunch treat! My thanks go out to the ladies on the committee who made the evening such a success!
In January, I applied for a grant for teacher training on the integration of computer technology into the curriculum. I am pleased to say that our teachers are in the process of completing the training offered by Pace University. Their sample lessons will be posted on the Pace University educational website in the late Spring. Congratulations teachers!
Our Alumni Committee is in the process of mailing a newsletter to all our graduates. This first issue will be filled with the news and pictures of our 80th Birthday Celebration in October. Anyone who is an alumnus and would like to join the Alumni Committee is welcome!
The month of May will bring First Communion and our May Crowning Procession, along with the celebration of our Colonial Day project and our Spring Band Concert. We will also be holding an Open House on Sunday, May 6 to encourage more families to join our school community. More details will follow. June will also be filled with many special events. I will keep you posted.
If you have not returned your registration form packet yet, please do it this week. I am beginning the process of ordering for next year. Please encourage your friends and neighbors to come to the Open House and see for themselves how special St. Lawrence O’Toole School really is!
